How to get to Batu Ferringhi from George Town, Penang

George Town and Batu Ferringhi is about 12km apart. There are 2 ways to get to Batu Ferringhi from George Town: public bus and taxi

  • Option 1: George Town to Batu Ferringhi by public bus (cheapest and longest):
  • Rapid Penang bus 101 runs between George Town and Batu Ferringhi
  • Fare is 4RM as of 2019 for the entire journey (one way). Equivalent to $1USD. Pay by cash onboard
  • Takes about 60-70 minutes for the journey
  • Bus departs from George Town between 5:30am and midnight. It returns from Teluk Bahang (the town at the very end of the route, even farther than Batu Ferringhi) between 5:30 and 23:20. It runs every 10-20 minutes (check current schedule)
  • Rapid Penang's website for the latest info on route 101. It's the public bus operator in Penang. You can also go to Batu Ferringhi directly from the airport by Rapid Penang bus 102, bypassing George Town
  • Bus 101 has several stops in George Town. Board at the stops most convenient to you. Here's a route map for this bus. Click on the pins to show stop information and GPS coordinates. Green area is the main tourist area of Batu Ferringhi. Yellow area is the main tourist area of George Town. Tip: keep in mind we drive on the left side of the road in Malaysia to be on the correct side of the road for the bus stop:

  • Option 2: taxi (easiest option)
  • Some people take taxi between George Town and Batu Ferringhi
  • Easiest way to get a taxi in Penang is with Grab
  • Grab's one-way fare to Batu Ferringhi is 20-30RM ($5-$7.5 USD)
  • Trip should take about 20-30 minutes
  • However, some drivers may not want to drive that far, in which case you will have to probably pay them an extra 20-30RM to drive this route
