How to get from Cairo International Airport to the city

  • Honestly, unless you speak fluent Arabic and/or have been to Cairo before, the best way to get to the city from the Cairo International Airport is via pre-arranged taxis or cars. Reasons are:
  • You will be hounded by a never ending supply of taxi drivers as soon as you exit baggage claim area, quite a stressful experience I should add
  • You also need to negotiate for a good fare; otherwise very easy to overpay
  • There is currently no tube or trains that connects the airport with the city. Although I was informed that in a few years one of the tube lines will extend to the airport
  • There are buses, but they are extremely substandard and uncomfortable to ride. I would not recommend
  • There are numerous transport providers that offers pre-arranged airport service. The most well known two are:
  1. London Cab: http://londoncabegypt.com. About ~$18 USD one way
  2. Cairo Airport Shuttle: https://www.cairoshuttlebus.com. About $16 USD each way
  • Or you can search Google, Viator, or GetYourGuide, for other shuttle service providers. During my research I've seen some offering prices as low as $5 USD for these kinds of transfers, but the vast majority of airport transfers cost between $15-$20 each way. I feel the extremely low cost ones are of dubious quality
  • Also, if you have a tour booked, chances are the tour includes airport pickup
