Watching movies in Chiang Mai

  • There's only a couple of major movie theaters here in Chiang Mai. They're mostly very modern and comparable to what I'm used to back home in the US. Here they are:
  • SFX Cinema at the Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center (my go-to spot):
  • Pretty modern
  • Located right in the middle of the Nimman area (5th floor of the Maya mall), so very convenient. ~20 minute walk from the north west corner of the old city
  • Location | Show times
  • Major Cineplex at the Central Plaza Chiang Mai Airport:
  • Pretty modern
  • ~20 minute walk from the southwest corner of the old city
  • Location | Show times
  • Major Cineplex at the CentralFestival mall:
  • There's an IMAX here
  • Pretty far from the old city. You'll need to take a Grab (the equivalent of Uber here) or Songthaew to get there
  • Location | Show times
  • Chiang Mai Vista at the Kad Suan Kaew mall:
  • Probably the closest one to the old city. Only ~10 minute walk from the north west corner of the old city
  • Old theater, not nearly as nice as the other places but a bit cheaper
  • Location | Show times
  • Prices are considerably cheaper than in North America. A regular (non 3D, non IMAX, adult) ticket is around 150 baht, or ~USD$5
  • Seats are reserved when you buy the tickets
  • If you want you can also get premium seats for more money (see photos below). These seats are wider, and have their own auditoriums that are smaller and more intimate
  • Super long pre-movie commercials. ~25 minutes
  • Before the movie starts they will play the Royal Anthem that everyone needs to stand up for. Just watch everyone around you and follow what they do. There will be an English message projected on the screen as well.
