Drinking alcohol in China

  • China has a very strong drinking culture. If you get the chance to dine together with a local Chinese, they will "force" you to drink until you pass out to show their hospitality. Culturally, it's considered rude to refuse. My suggested solution is to convince them that you are allergic :p
  • While table liqueur tends to be quite strong in China (30-50% alcohol), cocktails are much weaker compared to European drinks. However, it's common to be served fake alcohol in bars and restaurants, even at the fanciest locations. My general advice is to avoid ordering drinks out. Most times beers are fine though
