Best way to get to Dalat from Ho Chi Minh City

  • Da Lat is about 230 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City
  • All things considered, the best way to get to Da Lat from Ho Chi Minh city is by flight. Alternatively you can also take a coach bus or luxury van, which are both cheaper than flying but take much much longer (both day and overnight options are available for bus/van)

  • Flight option (best option):
  • Direct flights operated by Vietjet, Jetstar and Vietnam Airlines
  • Fare is about $25-$35USD one way. Vietjet is typically the cheapest and Vietnam Airlines is almost always the most expensive (Vietjet and Jetstar are both discount airlines). Fares can get as high as $70 each way for certain departures
  • Flight time is 50 minutes
  • There are TONS of flights everyday: earliest one departs at 5:50am, last one departs at 10:50pm
  • To/From the airports:
  • HCMC: to get to HCMC airport, there are a couple of options including taxi and shuttle bus. Taxi costs $6.5-8.5 USD. Shuttle costs <$1USD. More details here.
  • Da Lat: from Da Lat airport, you can take a taxi to Da Lat city center for $8-$11 USD

  • Bus/Van option (good if you're on tight budget):
  • There are lots of coach buses and luxury vans that go to Da Lat from Ho Chi Minh City
  • Coach buses cost as little as $13USD per person each way, while luxury vans cost about $20 per person each way
  • Travel time is 7-8 hours
  • Most departures are during the day, but almost all operators have at least 1 overnight option leaving at 10-11pm and arriving the next morning. The benefit of the overnight option is that you also save on 1 night of hotel costs so it's extra great for your budget
  • Some popular operators:
  • 3S Limo (luxury bus, great reviews): website, Tripadvisor, $17 USD per person each way
  • Minh Tri (luxury van, bad reviews): no website, Facebook page, $18 USD per person each way
  • Thinh Phat (coach bus, ok reviews): website, $19 USD per person each way
  • FUTA Bus Lines (coach bus, ok reviews): website, Tripadvisor, $13 USD per person each way
  • Thanh Buoi Bus (luxury bus, decent reviews): website, Tripadvisor, $21 USD per person each way
  • How to book:
  • You should always start with each operator's website, you will usually get the cheapest fare that way
  • But the websites are usually not very user friendly and may be confusing to book with. A good alternatively way to book is using 12Go (12go.asia). Just enter the origin and destination (Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat) and it will list all the bus options for you. You can book with credit card through this website. The fares will be marked up by a few USD but it's well worth it in my opinion for the better user booking experience
  • When you book, be sure to confirm the pickup and drop off points with the operator. They all pick up and drop off at different places in HCMC and Da Lat, and some of them may offer to pick you up and/or drop you off directly at your hotels
