Best way to get to Da Nang from Ho Chi Minh City

You can either fly or take the train, but it's best to fly. Train is super slow and the price difference is not significant if you want to book ahead of time (which you should) and want at least a semi comfortable ride

  • Flight: my flight to Da Nang on Vietjet was $60 (one way) and took about about an hour and half. Jetstar also flies this route. I booked through Skyscanner
  • Train:
  • Takes 17-19 hours
  • Prices as follows:
  • Hard seat (lowest class): 611k VND ($26USD)
  • Soft seat (standard 2nd class seats): 796k VND ($34USD)
  • Hard berth (6 bed rooms): 918k-1103k VND ($40-48USD)
  • Soft berth (4 bed rooms): 1150k-1242k VND ($50-54USD)
  • Official Vietnam Railways booking site is https://dsvn.vn, but it does not accept international credit cards. You can also buy tickets in person at any train station in Vietnam. Bring your passport
  • Alternatively, you can use a 3rd party agency to book online, but they usually charge a 50% markup over the official prices
  • https://vietnam-railway.com is a major agency, and you can book using Visa or Master Card directly through their website. This is what their prices are for HCMC to Da Nang:User submitted photo of Da Nang
  • I suggest booking at least 1 week ahead of time, especially if you want soft berth as they get often get sold out

If you're really curious about the train, here's a youtube video I found. The train doesn't look too bad inside actually:
