How to get from Essaouira to Taghazout / Tamraght

You have visited the beautiful city of Essaouira and seen the famous fort used in the Game of Thrones tv show and now you want to catch some waves or take a yoga class in the chilled out backpacker havens of Taghazout and Tamraght. You have three main options for this journey: taxi, public bus and shared shuttle

Taxi: If you are a group taxis can be a good option as they give you the flexibility to depart at any time. Taxi fares vary hugely so you need to look around to get the best prices. Unfortunately, many taxi drivers make a habit of ripping off tourists. Be prepared for some lengthy haggling to get down to a fair price, or book a fixed rate taxi online

Public Bus: There are a many bus companies operating in Morocco (CTM and Supratours are two of the better ones). It is not possible to buy tickets online, instead they are purchased at the bus terminal. It is recommended to buy tickets at least one day before travel as they are often sold out on the day. Expect to pay a small fee for each piece of luggage and keep an eye on your bags in the terminal - tourists are frequently targeted by thieves / pickpockets

Shared Shuttle: A shared shuttle combines the convenience of a taxi and the low cost of public transport. You can book your tickets online and get picked up and dropped off from a central location close to your accommodation - luggage is carried free of charge

For this journey the prices and journey times of the three options are the following

Private Taxi: €70 - €120 (1-3 people) or €90 - €150 (4-8 people) (Total journey time 3 hours)

Public Bus: There are no bus companies currently operating from Essaouira to Taghazout or Tamraght. Instead you need to catch a bus to Agadir and then transfer back to Taghazout or Tamraght. In the past, people have managed get the Essaouira-Agadir bus to drop them on the side of the motorway at the Taghazout motorway junction (or in Tamraght) - so it is worth asking if you can do this. From the Taghazout junction it is a 20 min walk or €5 taxi ride to town and if you get dropped in Tamraght you are already in the centre of town. If you have to go via Agadir it is a €20 taxi or €2 public bus back to Taghazout or Tamraght - the taxi will take 30 mins and the bus 1 hour. The Essaouira to Agadir bus ticket is €7.50, plus 15 minute walk / €2 taxi to the bus station in Essaouira (Total journey time 5 - 6 hours)

Shuttle: €15 per person (Total journey time 3.5 hours)

Taxis or shuttles can be booked here https://www.souktosurf.com/. For buses you will either need to go to the bus station the day before, or this company http://www.marrakechtickets.co.uk/ will buy the tickets for you (this costs an extra €8 per ticket)
