In order to rent any type of motorized vehicles (including motorcycle, ATV, and cars) you must have an international drivers permit (IDP) as well as a valid drivers license from your country. This is exempt if you have a drivers license issued by the EU.
This rule has been strictly enforced since March of 2018. Since the fine for violation is 1000 euros for both the renter and the renting company, you will find that most of the time rental companies will turn you away.
There are only two locations in the United States that issue these documents: The American Automobile Association (AAA) and the American Automobile Touring Alliance (AATA). In Canada, you can obtain one from the Canadian Automobile Association. The IDP is valid for one year only.
