Best way to get to Hoi An from Hue, Vietnam

  • Hoi An is located just 150km south of Hue
  • The best way to travel from Hue to Hoi An is by direct coach bus. Hoi An doesn't have a train station, so unfortunately there's no direct trains available
  • How to take coach bus to Hoi An:
  • There are lots of bus companies that serve the Hue <-> Hoi An route. Here's a couple of the most popular ones (some of these are tour companies that also offer bus transportation services but the reviews are mainly for their tour services):
  • The Sinh Tourist:
  • Rated 3/5 on Tripadvisor
  • Website is
  • Two daily departures at 8am and 1:15pm from Hue
  • Takes 4 hours
  • Fare is 119,000 VND ($5.25USD)
  • Hanh Cafe:
  • Rated 3/5 on 12Go. I can't find their reviews on Tripadvisor
  • Website is
  • Two daily departures at 8:30am and 1:30pm from Hue
  • Takes 5 hours because it stops in Da Nang along the way
  • Fare is 80,000 VND ($3.5USD)
  • Hoi An Express:
  • Rated 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor
  • Website is
  • Two daily departures at 8:30am and 4pm
  • The 8:30am bus takes 6 hours because it makes a bunch of stops along the way, and the 4pm bus takes 3.5-4 hours
  • Uses a smaller coach bus than the ones used by Sinh and Hanh so price is higher
  • Fare is $12 USD
  • Hue Tourist:
  • Rated 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor
  • Website is
  • On the website it only shows bus from Hoi An to Hue, so I'm not sure if it has any service from Hue to Hoi An, but I imagine it must. You should check with them
  • Takes 3.5-4.5 hours depending on which departure you choose
  • Fare ranges from $9USD to $11USD
  • Khanh Hinh:
  • Rated 3.5/5 on Tripadvisor
  • Website is
  • 1 daily departure at 1:30pm
  • Takes 3.5 hours to get to Hoi An
  • Fare is $9 USD

  • How to book bus tickets:
  • For all the five bus companies I listed above, you can book through their website. Not all of them accept credit card payment, but you can contact them and follow the instructions they send you
  • Alternatively, you can use 12Go to book tickets for The Sinh Tourist and Hahn Cafe. 12Go is a very large online transportation ticketing agency in Southeast Asia, and you can use credit card to book through them. They will charge a few more USD than if you book direct, but its a much smoother experience
  • When you book, make sure you get the pickup instructions from the bus companies.
  • Both Hue and Hoi An are small cities and the pick up and drop off spots are all going to be very easily accessible to the city centers on foot

  • Alternative to bus:
  • As I said before, coach bus is the best option to get between Hue and Hoi An from both a cost and convenience perspective
  • But if you don't want to use this option for some reason, you have two alternatives:
  • Train + Bus/Taxi option: you can take a train to Da Nang, and then take a bus or taxi from Da Nang to Hoi An. This option will take you 4-5 hours, and will cost you $6-$30 USD, depending on if you choose bus or taxi from Da Nang to Hoi An. So this option is not cheaper to shorter than taking direct shuttle buses from Hue, and you still have to deal with the hassle of transferring in Da Nang. Therefore I do not recommend this option
  • Private transfer option: you can book a private car to take you from Hue to Hoi An. This option will be the most convenient one, but it will also be the priciest, costing about $55-60USD for a 4-person sedan ($65-70 for 7-seater and $75-$80 for 16-seater). This option is actually quite good if you have a few people together. Here are some private transfer providers you should check out and get quotes from:
  • Huracars:
  • Hoi An Transfer:
  • Hue Private Cars:
  • Hoi An Car:
  • VM Car:
  • Dichung Taxi:
