Best way to get to Kenting National Park from Kaohsiung

  • If you can, renting is a car is the best way to tour Kenting National Park. The park is very big and is best toured on your own
  • Aside from that, the only way to get to Kenting is to take a shuttle bus from either 1) Kaohsiung Station, 2) Xin Zuoying Station (i.e. Kaohsiung's high speed station), or 3) Kaohsiung International Airport. I personally recommend option 2
  • Option 1) Bus to Kenting from Kaohsiung Station
  • Take route 9117 or 9188, either of which will get you to Kenting area
  • Difference is, 9117 gets you here and 9188 gets you here. 9188 basically gets you to the further south to the southernmost tip of the island
  • You can board both buses at Zhongshan Bus Station on Jiangguo 2nd Road one block south of the main entrance to the train station. Bus station is located here
  • Bus takes about 2.5 hours. Fare is 352 taiwanese dollars ($11.5 USD) for route 9117 and 362 taiwanese dollars for route 9188. Fares can be paid on the bus by cash or at the station
  • Very frequent departures with 35 daily buses running right now from 4:15 to 22:30
  • Some, but not all of these departures are accessible buses. You need to look up on their website to see which ones are accessible
  • The bus is operated by KT Bus. You can check the current stops, schedule, and fare of the buses on its official website
  • Option 2) Bus to Kenting from Xin Zuoying Station (i.e. Kaohsiung high speed train station)
  • Take route 9188 or 9189. Route 9189 is also called Kenting Express and is the best option
  • 9188 gets you here, 9189 gets you here. 9188 goes further south to the southernmost tip of the island
  • To board these buses, take metro red line to "Zuoying / THSR Station", then get out of the metro station into the Xin Zuoying Station. Inside the train station head to exit 2, then follow the dark blue overhead signs for "Kenting Express". You'll find a counter with pink sign labeled "Kenting Express" where you can buy the tickets
  • Bus takes about 2-2.5 hours. Fare is 382 taiwanese dollars ($11.5 USD) for route 9118 and 352 taiwanese dollars for route 9188/Kenting Express
  • There are 15 daily 9188 buses from 8:45 to 21:45 and 27 daily 9189/Kenting Express buses from 8:30 to 19:10
  • Some, but not all of these departures are accessible buses. You need to look up on their website to see which ones are accessible
  • The bus is operated by KT Bus. You can check the current stops, schedule, and fare of the buses on its official website
  • Option 3) Bus to Kenting from Kaohsiung International Airport
  • Bus drops you off at Xiaowan in Kenting, takes about 2 hours
  • Fare is 367 taiwanese dollars by cash and 418 taiwanese dollars by credit card ($12-$13.5 USD, respectively)
  • 8 daily buses at departing at: 10:10, 11:10, 12:50, 13:50, 16:10, 17:10, 18:50, 19:50
  • The ticket counter is located inside the terminal building close exit 5 of the arrival lobby. After you picked up your baggage and left the customs, go left and you'll see it.
  • It's operated by PT Bus. You can see all the latest information about this route on its official website
