Getting to Macau from Guangzhou is very easy, I've done this trip many times. The distance between Guangzhou and Macau is about 140km, and the trip takes about 1.5-2 hours in total. The border is open between 6am and 1am everyday.
- Take the high speed train from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Zhuhai Railway Station. The border crossing to Macau is located in the Chinese city of Zhuhai, so you need to get there first. You can get to GZ South Station by metro, and it's about 40 minutes south of the city center. The train takes 1 hour
- Exit from Zhuhai Railway Station, turn right, and walk for about 5 minutes and you'll get to Gongbei Port (拱北口岸). It's a giant building and there will be lots of pedestrians walking towards it so you don't have to worry about getting lost.
- Go through the regular exit procedure here, and you'll be in Macau. There are currency exchanges at the border on Macau side so you can get some MOP here.
- The Macau side is called Border Gate. From there, you can take one of the 17 public buses leaving from the underground bus terminal to pretty much anywhere in Macau. Or a much better option if you're staying at a major casino or hotel is to take their free shuttle buses. Almost all major casinos in Macau run free shuttle buses to the border.
