How to dress in Nicaragua during vacation

General tips

  • Concentrate on outdoor clothing and sturdy walking shoes.
  • Be prepared accordingly for the humidity in Nicaragua, it is relatively high.
  • A casual suitcase of loose-fitting natural fabric is recommended. (Linen, silk or cotton)
  • Light wool is great for your trip here as it regulates your body temperature naturally.
  • When in town, dress in whatever makes you comfortable. Keep it casual in the downtowns and streets.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a sunhat is recommended for women. You can't afford to miss these.
  • Have insect repellants especially if you visit Nicaragua's rainforests.
  • Avoid expensive jewelry especially when walking in the streets.

  • If you plan to do much walking, then lightweight walking shoes or sneakers are advisable.
  • I recommend Hotter Shoes. They are light, comfortable and reduce chances of twisting your ankle.

Clothing tips for men

  • For travel jackets, go with jackets vests as Nicaragua doesn't get very cold.
  • For casual wear or beach attire, wear about knee- length beach shorts.
  • Locals here don't appreciate showing off too much skin regardless of gender.

Clothing tips for women

  • When visiting beaches, carry a sarong along to use with your swimming wear. It can double up as a lightweight shawl in the evenings.
  • Avoid revealing clothes and tight-fitting attire.
  • When visiting religious places, cover your shoulders and legs.
  • Avoid wearing jewelry. Leave your valuables in your hotel.
  • Due to unpredictable humidity, have a scarf to cover your hair as the humidity may cause havoc.
