What to pay attention to when riding bikes in Milan

Bikes are a good way to get around in Milan, since the public transportation is not super well mapped, driving and parking is literally hell. However Milan is not the most bike friendly city, there are no bike lanes and in the city centre roads are very narrow. A few things to keep in mind:

  • be very very careful of the tram tracks when you ride bikes in Milan, if you pass through it it's very easy to fall, do go near it's very dangerous
  • if you use the bike share offered by the city, BikeMi, you have to park it in docks. Sometimes during rush hour, it's hard to find a bike or an empty spot in dock to park. Use the digital display board near the stall to find availability
  • there are also Mobike and Ofo now in Milan, they are dockless shared bikes, but not super well distributed yet. Download their apps to find one near by
