Timing of the burning season in Myanmar

  • This is something that came up when I was researching my trip to Myanmar. There's something called "burning season" which apparently many Southeast Asian countries have. It's when farmers set their fields on fire to get rid of any remaining unharvested crops to get the fields ready for the next plantation cycle
  • The burning season in Myanmar takes place from mid-February to late-March, similar to neighbouring countries
  • This is one of the worst times to visit because the air becomes very smoggy and polluted across wide swaths of area. Visibility becomes very low and air becomes irritable to people with breathing issues
  • It's best to avoid visiting Myanmar during the burning season because you'll be less likely to enjoy the spectacular views that the country is known for
  • November - early February is all things considered the best time to visit Myanmar
