Cheapest transport means from Nairobi international airport (JKIA) to the city center

  • Nairobi has no metro system, leaving you with only two means of transport from the airport to the city center
  1. Buses
  2. Taxis

Airport taxis

  • You can either hail a taxi online using Uber or bolt or you could take airport taxis painted yellow.
  • Either way, all these taxis are going to charge you between Ksh 1500 to 2000 to take you to town, in case you get stuck in traffic, which you most likely will, the amount increases.

Airport buses

  • Buses share the same parking lot with taxis at the last parking lot on your way towards the gate
  • Bus fare: Ksh 100
  • Bus frequency: Irregular, they make the trip to town once full. They don't operate at night though.
  • Bus route: From JKIA buses take Mombasa road to town. They'll stop at Ambassador near the Hilton hotel, you can catch buses to other parts of Nairobi in town.
