How to get around in Panama city


  • There are 2 types of buses in Panama city
  1. Main corridor buses
  2. Local route buses
  • Main corridor buses run along the main east to west and north to south corridors. They are quicker than local buses as they make fewer halts and charge about $2.
  • Local buses have many stops. They normally charge about 30 cents.


  • Most local taxis are unmetered but the local city council sets fares. At most a wide within the city should cost up to $10.
  • Recently ubers have been introduced in the city and you can just order for one.

The metro

  • The metro currently has two functional lines
  • Line 1 operates north to south from San Isidro north of the city to Albrook with 14 passenger stations between the two termini.
  • A complete trip in line 1 takes about half an hour.
  • Line 2 was launched recently running from northeast to the west with 16 passenger stations.
  • A complete trip on line 2 takes 35 minutes: It will take you an hour and a half to cover the same distance by road.
  • The metro is certainly the cheapest and one of the fastest transport means.
