How to access internet in Peru

  • When I was here the internet was relatively good though figuring out how to get it was a bit of a problem at first. If you'll be visiting Peru soon here is all you need to know about internet there.

Mobile data

  • Claro and Movistar are the leading internet providers here.
  • They provide two internet options
  1. A tourist SIM card package that comes with 2GB data for two weeks, not a lot of data but it's enough to keep you in touch with what's happening around for those weeks.
  2. USB modems. A moderate package costs about $37 per month. This is your best option if you have heavy data needs.

Internet cafes

  • Commonly known as cabina publicas, these public internet booths are available in almost every part of Peru including rural areas.
  • Once you walk in into one, you'll be assigned a computer and get billed later after you are done.
  • Normally it costs about $1/ hour.
  • NOTE: Layout of Latin American keyboards is different from that of English keyboards.
