English proficiency in the Philippines is very high

  • If you've never been to the Philippines before, you may be surprised to know that the majority of us here speak great English. In fact, English is one of our two official languages and we are taught it very early in our education
  • In Manila, almost everyone you meet will speak very good English. In the rest of Luzon (the island that Manila is on and by far the most populous region of Philippines), a large majority speak decent English. This applies to any beach towns you want to visit
  • Even if you venture off the beaten path and go into rural areas, you should have no issues getting around in English, although you may need to speak slower and be a little more patient
  • When I say high proficiency, I mean you can have actual conversation with locals, not just basic tourist questions and greetings.
  • Overall, Philippines is a very tourist friendly country and you can easily get around here with English!
