How to get to Piraeus from Athens International Airport by public transport

There are 2 ways to get to Piraeus from ATH by public transportation (non-taxi)

Option 1: Train

  • Overview:
  • €10 each way
  • Takes ~1h to get to the Piraeus railway station
  • Train leaves every hour at xx:09
  • First leaves train at 6:09am and last train leaves at 10:09pm
  • Where to take the train: when you exit the baggage area, follow the signs for trains. It should direct you to exit the terminal building, go up stairs, and then cross this bridge to the airport train/metro station:User submitted photo of Piraeus
  • Once you crossed the bridge to the train/metro station, I recommend buying the ticket from the staff there rather than from the machine, to make sure you get the right ticket and get on the right platform. You can buy the ticket with credit card if you don't have euros on hand
  • Once you have the ticket, go down stairs to the platforms. For trains to Piraeus, you'll need to board one of the trains marked as "Suburban Train", rather than those marked as "Metro" which go to Athens. Again, you should follow instructions from the staff

Option 2: Bus

  • Overview:
  • Route X96 is the shuttle bus that runs between ATH airport and Piraeus
  • €6 each way
  • The destination station for this bus at Piraeus is here
  • Takes 1-1.5 hours each way depending on traffic
  • Runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • How to take the bus:
  • I haven't taken route X96 so I'm not 100% sure, but I did take route X95 to Athens and it's run by the same company, so I think the procedure is the same
  • After you exit the baggage claim, turn right and go all the way to the end of the terminal building
  • At the end of the terminal building, exit the building and you should see the bus stop right there. Buy ticket with cash and board the bus with the ticket
