What to Take With You on Long Cross Country Trips

Taking a cross country trip with friends or family can be exciting. However, things can get tricky if you forget to bring some essential supplies with you. Below is a list of what to take with you on long cross country trips to make sure that your vacation is as fun and hassle-free as possible.

Healthy Snacks

No good road trip would be complete without bringing along some good snacks. It's best to stock up on snacks before you leave so that you don't end up paying inflated gas station prices for everything. If you can, try to buy your snacks in bulk to save even more money.

While you may be tempted to stock up on chips, soda, and other junk food, you'll feel better off later if you opt for healthier options instead. There are loads of healthy snacks that don't need to be refrigerated. Instead of soda, try stocking up on flavored water. Instead of chips or candy, pack some fruit or trail mix. Your body is sure to thank you for it later.

It's important not to forget any medication you might need! Vitamins and other supplements you take every day are included in this. Your body will be very used to taking these medications and it may have odd reactions if you go without them. So, pack everything you usually take from prescription medication to prebiotic fiber supplements to keep your body regular.

It's also important to pack medications you don't usually need, but might need. Some good examples of these types of medications include cold medication, sleeping pills, allergy pills, motion sickness medication, and the like. It's better to have these around and not need them than to need them and not have them around.

Versatile Clothing

If you're driving across the country, there's no saying what type of weather you'll run into. For this reason, it's best to pack clothing that you can be comfortable in all types of weather. For example, even if you are traveling during a hot summer, you might want to pack a sweater or jacket, just in case it gets cold one night.

It's also a good idea to pack clothes that you might need for special occasions. Bring a dress or suit in case you go somewhere elegant. Pack a swimsuit in case you go to the beach. Of course, make sure to pack pajamas!

It was perhaps The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, that phrased the importance of a towel best: “A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have." A towel is also a great thing for an Earth-stuck traveler to have as well. Some people may think you don't need to bring a towel, as they are available in most hotels. However, towels can also be helpful in case you go to the beach, go camping, or even if you just spill something in the car and need to clean it up quickly. So, take the hitchhiker's advice and always know where your towel is!

Batteries and Chargers

Lastly, is there anything more important to bring on a road trip nowadays than a charger or extra batteries? Make sure to stock up on these as soon as you can. Like with snacks and medicines, it's best to get these before you leave so you don't end up paying extra for these things at gas stations. For the most part, the most important charger you will need is a cell phone charger. If you want to charge your phone in the car, look into getting a USB car phone charger.

You may also want to consider bringing along a spare car battery-- just in case. If you cannot afford to do this, at least try to bring jumper cables. This way, if your car battery dies, you can jump your car to drive it until you can find somewhere that sells car batteries.

Well, there you have it! These are some of the most important things to bring with you on any long cross country trip. So, pack your bags and remember to have fun!
