Tenerife South

User submitted photo of Santa Cruz de TenerifeThere are two airports on the island of Tenerife, one is also known as Tenerife South–Reina Sofía Airport or simply Tenerife South Airport. This international airport is the busiest of the two and over the past 12 months has received around 11 million passengers. Since the year 2015, this second busiest airport on the canary islands has had a steady increase in passenger numbers with additional 2 million arriving on the island over those four years.

Tenerife North Airport is located in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and welcomes around five million passengers a year. One common belief surrounding Tenerife is that the South is always Sunny, but the North is Cloudy. Is that totally correct? Well the fact of the matter is that the south is indeed sunnier and warmer than the north is. And in my experience, the north was cloudier and seemed to lack sun for those months. However, this of course is not always correct. In fact, the south has experienced some freak weather over the last decade

Overall, the south does tend to have more predictable sunshine hours even in the winter. Winter temperatures usually don’t normally drop much below 20 degrees Celsius. There are plenty of stunning resorts in the South such as Costa Adeje and Gold del Sur. If you avoid the all-inclusive package deals and search independently of large tour operators, you could save quite a lot. If there was a number in your group, you could also share one of the larger villas in Tenerife South to bring the cost down.

Car hire Tenerife South Airport

Europcar, Sixt, Hertz each have a desk at the airport, however it would be advisable to check out some price comparison websites that include these and at least ten other large competitors. The benefits of booking car hire online also includes the fact that queues at Tenerife airport can be quite large at peak times. Also, it will give yo you time to digest the terms of each car rental company including the confusing full to empty fuel policies. Car hire insurance can also be quite confusing let alone a very expensive surprise. Why not consider your own annual car hire insurance privately and only pay the price you get quoted for?
