Intellectual Property

All material that you upload, publish or display to others via The Travel Brief platform will be referred to collectively as “Your Content.” You acknowledge and agree that, as part of using The Travel Brief, Your Content may be viewed by the general public. You, or your licensors, as applicable, retain ownership of the copyright and other intellectual property in Your Content, subject to the non-exclusive rights granted to The Travel Brief below.

  1. License and Permission to Use Your Content.

By submitting, posting, or displaying Your Content on The Travel Brief platform, you grant The Travel Brief and its affiliated partners a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty free, fully paid up, transferable, sublicensable (through multiple tiers), license to use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, create derivative works from, publish, transmit, store, display and distribute, and otherwise use Your Content in connection with the operation or use of The Travel Brief or the promotion, advertising or marketing thereof, in any and all media or distribution methods (now known or later developed). You agree that this license includes the right for The Travel Brief to make Your Content available to other companies, organizations, business partners, or individuals who collaborate with The Travel Brief for the syndication, broadcast, distribution or publication of Your Content through other media or distribution methods.

    2. Once you submit a post, you may edit or delete your post at any time from public display on the website. However, we may not be able to control removal of the post from display on syndicated channels or other previously distributed methods outside of Any edits and changes made by you may be visible to other users. The right for The Travel Brief to copy, display, transmit, publish, perform, distribute, store, modify, and otherwise use any content you post, and sublicense those rights to others, is perpetual and irrevocable, to the maximum extent permitted by law, except as otherwise specified in this Agreement.

Once you submit a post, it may be reviewed by our team to make sure that it’s in compliance with our content guidelines, we may also modify Your Content format, tags, or length to ensure optimal readability on the platform and researching experience of all the users. In case of any modification, we will do our best not to change the overarching message of Your Content, unless it violates our Acceptable Use Policy, in which case Your Content will be removed from The Travel Brief platform.

  4. You further give us the permission and authority to act as your nonexclusive agent to take enforcement action against any unauthorized use by third-parties of any of Your Content outside of The Travel Brief or in violation of our Terms of Service.

By posting Your Content on The Travel Brief platform, you represent and warrant to us that: i) you have the ownership rights, or you have obtained all needed licenses or permissions from any necessary parties, to use Your Content and grant us the rights to use Your Content as provided for under this Agreement, and ii) that posting Your Content violates no intellectual property or personal right of others or any applicable law or regulation. You accept full responsibility for avoiding infringement of the intellectual property or personal rights of others or violation of laws and regulations in connection with Your Content. You are responsible for ensuring that Your Content does not violate The Travel Brief’s Acceptable Use Policy, other published The Travel Brief policy, or any applicable law or regulation. You agree to pay all royalties, fees, and any other monies owed to any person by reason of Your Content.

  6. Permitted uses. If you operate a search engine, web crawler, bot, scraping tool, data mining tool, bulk downloading tool, wget utility, or similar data gathering or extraction tool, you may access The Travel Brief Platform, subject to the following additional rules: i) you must use a descriptive user agent header; ii) you must follow robots.txt at all times; iii) your access must not adversely affect any aspect of The Travel Brief Platform’s functioning; and iv) you must make it clear how to contact you, either in your user agent string, or on your website if you have one.

  7. No Endorsement or Verification. Please note that The Travel Brief Platform contains access to third-party content, products and services, and it offers interactions with third parties. Participation or availability on The Travel Brief Platform does not amount to endorsement or verification by us. We make no warranties or representations about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any content posted on The Travel Brief Platform by anyone.

  8. Ownership. You acknowledge and agree that Our Content and Materials remain the property of The Travel Brief’s users or The Travel Brief. The content, information and services made available on The Travel Brief Platform are protected by U.S. and international copyright, trademark, and other laws, and you acknowledge that these rights are valid and enforceable.

Acceptable Use Policy

The Travel Brief is built upon shared knowledge and values. Please keep the following rules in mind so everyone on The Travel Brief can draw the most useful information from the community in order to have a safe and meaningful experience both on-and offline.

  1. Be objective when sharing, commenting, and consuming content on The Travel Brief. One of the issues we found with travel recommendations and review sites is that it’s hard to be relevant for everybody – we are all unique individuals after all. Therefore, anyone who engages in activities on The Travel Brief should remain objective as much as possible so more people can find the info useful.

  2. Be respectful and constructive while engaging with content shared by others. Sharing is caring. Cheer the contributors if you find what they shared is useful. It’s ok to pose opposite opinions – mistakes can happen, things can simply be outdated. Engage with good faith and object any hard errors you may come across constructively by providing alternatives and updated info.

  3. We do not want our platform to be filled with ads. No content with the sole purpose to advertise or promote a business/commercial property/website/event is allowed unless:

    • It’s an essential part to the tip you are writing which is guided by "practicality"

    • If you are the owner of a travel blog/vlog or a web magazine, you are allowed to include your url in your profile as long as you provide a linkback to or the specific url to any tip page on your site. You may also include your url in your written content as long as it’s compliant with the point above.

  4. Make sure your tips or suggestions are safe to consume by other users. You must not submit any false or misleading content. Make very explicit warnings if what’s included in your content is not suitable for certain age groups, physical conditions, or other specific characteristics.

  5. No unlawful content or malicious activities. You are prohibited from using the site or its content to violate any international, federal, provincial or state regulations, rules, laws, or local ordinances. Do not contribute malware, viruses, and other malicious programs or links that may harm the operation of The Travel Brief platform or any users who may be consuming the content. No spam allowed.

  6. No Harassment and Bullying. Abusive and immoral behavior directed towards private individuals is not allowed. You are prohibited from using the site or its content to harass, abuse, insult, harm, defame, slander, disparage, intimidate, or discriminate based on ethnicity, race, national origins, religion, age, gender, sexual orientations, or disabilities. Repeated and unwanted contact constitutes a form of harassment. Content should not make threats against others or advocate violence, including self-harm.

  7. Intellectual Property and Personal Rights. Do not post content that infringes any intellectual property or personal right of another party.

Violating the Acceptable Use Policy may result in the removal of content, or in the limitation or termination of a user’s access to The Travel Brief.
